In May 2004, Bishop Joseph N. Latino gave his approval to begin a capital campaign for the purchase of property on which to build a Catholic church and social hall in Tippah County. Since then, there have been numerous fundraising efforts by the parishioners of St. Matthew. We have sold handbags, hosted carnivals, raffled recliners, and sold too many tacos to count. With the combined efforts of the parishioners and support from the Diocese, Glenmary, and Sacred Heart, we were able to purchase the property in October.
The property is located on Highway 15 North, just north of the Industrial Park Road and next to Ashley Furniture in Ripley. It is a beautiful plot that has already hosted us in liturgy, soccer games, Halloween parties, vacation Bible school and more despite the absense of any building having yet begun.
Since purchasing the land, St. Matthew has been the recipient of a generous trust towards the construction of our building. We have been working with an architect and anxiously await groundbreaking as soon as all of the necessary pieces are in place. In the meantime, let the tacos sales continue!
